May 17th has seen the inauguration of China Health Thematic Contact Point (TCP) in Hunan TCM University in Changsha, Hunan province of China. DDG XING Jijun of CSTEC (China Science and Technology Exchange Center, Ministry of Science and Technology), Science officer Mitchell Jessica of EU Delegation to China and DDG YI Xiangfang of Hunan S&T Department, the president and the party chief of Hunan TCM University attended the inauguration ceremony.
Health TCP was established in line with the CSTEC development plan of establishing 10 RCPs (Regional Contact Point) and 5 TCPs ( Thematic Contact Point) across China in the coming 5 years. These RCPs and TCPs would be help desks of NCP CSTEC throughout China in different thematic areas to assist the promotion of S&T cooperation between EU and China.
Their responsibilities include 1) collecting S&T needs in heath filed for cooperation with European counterparts; 2) identifying proper Chinese partners for China-EU Health projects; 3) analyzing the China-EU cooperation data under Health theme; 4) developing policy recommendations on China-EU S&T Cooperation for Health theme.
Health TCP is the second TCP set up by CSTEC in China. The other one is the Agriculture TCP based in Chinese Academy of Agriculture Sciences. The establishment of other RCPs is also underway. These RCPs and TCPs are going to play more and more important roles in bridging the local and thematic S&T resources of China with that of Europe and serving future China-EU S&T cooperation.
